A Town Built Around Old Structures

Cave Spring was incorporated in 1852 and has 25 entries on the National Register of Historic Places. The Cave Spring Commercial Historic District covers about six acres and was listed in 1980. It holds 32 standing antebellum structures. The town is small, but it is old, and the houses and yards around the historic core are a different kind of tree job than a new subdivision.

When a house has stood for a century or more, trees near it have often been there for most of that time. They are large, they hang over old rooflines, and their roots run under porches and walkways. That is a job for a crew that rigs pieces down carefully and does not let anything fall on the structure below.

Around Rolater Park

Rolater Park is a 29-acre park that was willed to the town in 1931. It is built around the spring the town is named for, where water comes out of the mouth of a cave, and it has a spring-fed swimming pool. The park sits inside the Rolater Park Historic District. Within it are the 1851 Cave Springs Baptist Church, the old Hearn Academy schoolhouse, first founded in 1838 by Baptists as a manual-labor school, and the Hearn Inn, the former Academy dormitory, now a bed and breakfast.

The park itself is the town's to look after, so trees inside it are not ours to touch. This page is about the private yards around it. Homes on the streets near the park and the downtown district often have large shade trees close to the house, and those jobs tend to be tight.

What We Handle in Cave Spring

For detail on any of these, see our services page. We have dedicated pages for trimming and pruning and stump grinding.

Rigging Near a Structure

The standard method near a building is sectional work. A climber ties off each limb or trunk section before cutting it, and the piece goes down on a rope. We use this near houses, outbuildings, fences, and walls, and it is the same method we use anywhere that a tree cannot simply be dropped. If a tree is close to a power line, we tell you before we start whether the utility needs to be involved.
