Removal, trimming, and stump grinding for homes in Lindale and across Floyd County.
Lindale began around a grist mill. In the 1830s a Presbyterian Scotsman built a small mill on Silver Creek that ground corn and wheat for local residents and for Rome. A rail stop on the Rome line followed, and the community took the name Lindale.
The mill that shaped the town came later. In 1896 Massachusetts Mills opened a cotton mill in Lindale with 42,000 spindles and 1,400 looms, one of the largest in the state. At its peak 3,400 people worked there. In 1926 Pepperell Manufacturing Company bought the mill, which is why the Pepperell name is attached to the community and the school. The mill closed in 2001 after 105 years of making cloth. The Old Brick Mill, a historic grist mill structure, is still standing.
A town that grew up around a mill has a particular layout: closely spaced lots on streets laid out for workers, with a shade tree or two that has had a century to grow. Those trees now sit close to the houses, close to the neighbors, and close to the service lines. That is the kind of job where careful sectional work and rigging matter more than raw speed.
Lindale also sits along Silver Creek, and creek-side lots have their own tree issues. Trees that grow on wet ground can lean over time, and they should be looked at after storms.
